Overview
Merge Cube is an innovative educational tool that brings augmented reality (AR) experiences to life in the classroom. Shaped like a cube, it is embedded with unique patterns that, when viewed through a compatible device, transforms into interactive 3D objects and learning simulations. Integrating it into the classroom provides an immersive and engaging learning experience for students. It allows them to explore scientific concepts, delve into historical events, examine complex structures, and engage in interactive simulations that promote hands-on learning. Merge Cube ignites students’ curiosity, fosters critical thinking, and enhances their understanding of abstract concepts through interactive visualizations. By incorporating into lessons, teachers can create dynamic and memorable learning experiences that cater to various learning styles and encourage active participation. With its ability to merge the physical and digital worlds, it empowers educators to unlock the potential of augmented reality and elevate learning to new dimensions.
To start using in the classroom, here are the steps to follow:
- Acquire: Obtain Merge Cubes for your classroom. They can be purchased online through various retailers, directly from the official Merge website, or you can borrow one from us. You can also print one to assemble.
- Compatible Device: Ensure you have a compatible device to view and interact with the Merge Cube. This is compatible with smartphones and tablets running on iOS or Android operating systems.
- Install Apps: Download and install apps on the device. The Merge EDU app is a great starting point as it provides access to a collection of educational apps and experiences specifically designed for Merge Cube.
- Familiarize Yourself: Take the time to explore its capabilities. Familiarize yourself with the available apps, features, and how to manipulate the cube to interact with the augmented reality objects.
- Plan Lessons and Activities: Identify suitable lessons or activities where the it can enhance learning. Consider topics in science, mathematics, history, geography, or other subjects that can be visualized and explored using augmented reality.
- Introduce to Students: Introduce the Merge Cube to your students, explaining its features and potential for enhancing their learning experiences. Model how to hold and interact with the cube while viewing it through the compatible device.
- Collaborative or Individual Exploration: Provide opportunities for students to explore individually or in small groups. Assign specific tasks or challenges that align with the lesson objectives, allowing students to interact with the cube and discover augmented reality content.
- Reflect and Evaluate: Encourage students to reflect on their experiences and discuss how it enhanced their understanding of the subject matter. Assess the learning outcomes achieved through the use and gather feedback to inform future implementation.

There are several ways to integrate Merge Cube into the classroom. Here are a few examples:
- Science Exploration: Use Merge Cube to bring scientific concepts to life. Students can explore the solar system, dissect virtual organisms, examine the human anatomy, or interact with 3D models of molecules and chemical reactions.
- Historical Simulations: Transport students back in time by integrating Merge Cube into history lessons. They can explore ancient civilizations, visit historical landmarks, examine artifacts, and witness key historical events through augmented reality.
- Geometry and Mathematics: Reinforce geometry and mathematical concepts using Merge Cube. Students can manipulate 3D shapes, explore spatial relationships, visualize geometric principles, and solve mathematical puzzles in an interactive and hands-on manner.
- Creative Storytelling: Merge Cube can be a catalyst for creative storytelling activities. Students can design and build their own 3D worlds, characters, or scenes using the apps. They can then narrate stories, create animations, or develop interactive narratives that incorporate augmented reality elements.
- Virtual Field Trips: Take students on virtual field trips using Merge Cube. They can explore famous landmarks, natural wonders, or cultural sites through augmented reality.
- Collaborative Projects: Foster collaboration and teamwork by incorporating Merge Cube into group projects. Students can work together to design and build interactive AR presentations, create virtual exhibits, or solve complex challenges.
