Dyslexie

Overview

Dyslexie font is a specialized typeface designed specifically to support individuals with dyslexia in reading and writing. Its unique features, such as heavier bottom parts, larger openings, and increased spacing between letters, help alleviate some of the challenges that dyslexic students face when processing written text. Dyslexia fonts do not “fix” dyslexia but they can help with the comfort of reading. By integrating Dyslexie font (or other dyslexia fonts) into the classroom, teachers can provide a powerful tool to boost confidence for students with dyslexia.

Research studies differ on the effectiveness of various Dyslexia fonts. Some research has shown that Dyslexie font can significantly improve reading speed, accuracy, and overall reading experience for individuals with dyslexia. Other research didn’t find improvement. Use of the font does take time due to the student’s brain already being trained to read traditional fonts. If you integrate the use of this font, it is suggested to test it for at least a couple weeks. It is also suggested to continue using traditional fonts at least a couple times per week to help maintain the use of other fonts in everyday life.

It is important to note that Dyslexia research such as study’s conducted by Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity do agree that reading instruction should be evidence-based, systematic, and delivered in a small group setting, This includes explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics, with many opportunities to practice reading skills in a supportive environment.
