Overview
The Promethean ActivPanel is an interactive display built for teaching and learning. The ActivPanel is designed to redefine teaching and learning in the modern classroom by providing the opportunity to combine intuitive multi-touch technologies with interactive capabilities. Interactive display research reveals positive effects of this technology on teaching and learning (Cóndor-Herrerato, et. al, 2021) to foster collaborative learning, enhance engagement (Sharma, et. al., 2020) and prepare learners for success in the digital age.
At first glance, the ActivPanel may appear to be a large touchscreen monitor or TV, but due to the design focus on education, it is much more. While you do have the option to display your computer on the panel, providing multi-touch interaction additional features include tools such as annotation, whiteboard, timers, and even an attached android to provide the ability to integrate apps. Check out the below tab to “Get Started” using your panel!

Interactive panels can be implemented across various subjects and grade levels from P12 through higher education. There are many ways to align these pedagogical strategies with the use of this technology tool. Here are some strategies to consider:
- Active Learning: Interactive panels are built with engagement in mind. The ActivPanel has the ability for multiple students to interact at the same time (up to 10) to share ideas, problem solving, and manipulate content. Some examples of active learning with the panel are experiments, manipulatives, anchor charts, and interactive notetaking on varied content from PDFs to websites.
- Problem-Based Learning: Present real-world problems or case studies that require students to apply their knowledge and skills to find solutions. Students (individually or collaboratively) problem solve on their device and then each can be shared on the panel. This hands-on approach promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and engagement with the subject matter.
- Hands-On Experiments and Labs: Incorporate hands-on experiments and laboratory activities on various websites, using software, or through apps you install. This kinesthetic approach enhances understanding, observation skills, and scientific inquiry.
- Gamification: Integrate elements of gamification, such as educational games, quizzes, or challenges, into the learning process. The panel has built-in gamification with easy-to-create word searches, crossword puzzles, and more. Examples of other tools available to use through Louisiana Tech is Poll Everywhere and TopHat. This increases motivation, engagement, and active participation while making the learning experience more enjoyable.
